Domain Transfer and Delivery Policy

Domain ownership is delivered through standard registrar workflows. This page lists the available methods, the steps for each party, and when ownership is deemed transferred.

Effective date: 21 May 2026. Last updated: 26 May 2026.

1. Overview

Every order placed through myhostly.co ends with a domain transfer. The transfer step begins only after the buyer payment is confirmed by the approved third-party payment provider and the marketplace has re-verified transfer readiness on the registrar side.

The marketplace coordinates the steps with the vendor and the buyer. It does not act as a registrar, does not bypass registrar procedures, and does not store registrar credentials for either party.

2. Transfer methods

Each listing in the catalogue records the transfer method that will be used. The methods are described below.

Registrar push

Used when the vendor and the buyer hold accounts at the same registrar. The vendor pushes the domain to the buyer's account using the registrar's account-to-account transfer feature. No authorisation code is required. Typical completion time is minutes to a few hours, subject to the receiving account's confirmation settings.

Authorisation code transfer (EPP)

Used when the buyer prefers a different registrar from the one that currently holds the domain. The vendor unlocks the domain at the source registrar and supplies an EPP authorisation code. The buyer initiates an inbound transfer at the receiving registrar using that code and confirms the contact information. The standard registry window for an authorisation code transfer is typically up to 5 working days, although many registrars complete it faster. Some top-level domains apply a 60-day post-registration lock that may delay the transfer; the marketplace will flag this on the listing where applicable.

Account-level ownership update

Used where the registrar supports a contact or ownership update without moving the domain to a different account. The update is processed using the registrar's standard procedure and any registrar-side confirmation steps that apply.

3. Buyer steps

Before the transfer is initiated, please make sure you have an account at the receiving registrar in your name and that the contact email on that account is one you can read promptly. For an inbound transfer using an EPP code, please also be ready to accept any confirmation email the registrar sends.

Once the marketplace tells you the transfer is starting, the receiving steps are usually:

  • Registrar push: accept the inbound push in your registrar's account, if your registrar requires explicit acceptance.
  • Authorisation code transfer: paste the EPP code at the receiving registrar, confirm the contact information, and approve any confirmation email.
  • Account-level update: confirm the contact change according to the registrar's standard procedure.

4. Vendor steps

The vendor is responsible for keeping the domain in a transferable state from listing approval until transfer confirmation: no transfer lock, no pending deletion or restore, and no recent contact change that would block a clean move. For an authorisation code transfer, the vendor unlocks the domain, generates a current EPP code, and supplies it through the marketplace.

5. Transfer readiness checks

Before each transfer is initiated, the marketplace re-verifies that the domain is not under a transfer lock, has no pending deletion or restoration, and has no recent ownership change that would block a clean move. If these checks fail, the transfer is paused and we contact the vendor to resolve the issue.

6. When ownership is deemed transferred

Ownership is treated as transferred when the registrar confirms the change in writing. The confirmation may take the form of a registrar email, an API event, or an equivalent record provided by the registrar. The marketplace stores this confirmation on the order record as the basis for unblocking the vendor payout step.

When ownership is deemed transferred, the order status moves to completed and a confirmation email is sent to the buyer. The vendor payout step is unblocked and processed according to the applicable terms.

7. Transfer evidence

For each completed transfer, the marketplace records a short evidence note: the date of the registrar confirmation, the receiving account or registrar where relevant, and any reference number provided by the registrar. This note is included in the completion email to the buyer and is held on the order record.

8. Failed or unavailable transfer

If the registrar cannot complete the transfer for technical or policy reasons, we coordinate next steps with the buyer and the vendor. Where the issue can be resolved (for example, a different transfer method or a short delay to clear a registry lock), we will agree the next attempt with you in writing. Where the issue cannot be resolved within a reasonable time, the buyer is entitled to a refund under the Refund and Cancellation Policy.
